The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted on the 26th local time to revoke the authorization of China Telecom Americas to operate in the United States. The reason why the FCC made this decision is still the consistent excuse of the US side to suppress Chinese enterprises, that is, the so-called “for national security reasons”.
Reuters said that the FCC decision means that China Telecom Americas must stop its services in the United States within 60 days from now, and China Telecom has been authorized to provide telecommunications services in the United States for nearly 20 years.
It is reported that the Federal Communications Commission of the United States claimed that China Telecom was “used, influenced and controlled by the Chinese government and is likely to be forced to comply with the requirements put forward by the Chinese government without adequate legal procedures for independent judicial supervision”. The U.S. regulatory authority further mentioned the so-called “major risks” posed to the U.S. national security and law enforcement.
China Telecom Americas responded to this.
“The FCC’s decision is disappointing. We plan to seek all available options while continuing to serve our customers,” a spokesman for China Telecom America told the media, Reuters said
In fact, last year, the United States let the wind out to revoke the business operation authorization of China Telecom in the United States. At that time, Hua Chunying, then spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of foreign affairs, pointed out that the excuse of the United States for so-called “protecting national security” was completely inconsistent with the facts. In essence, it abused the concept of national security to suppress specific Chinese enterprises. Hua Chunying stressed that the US side abused state power to suppress specific Chinese enterprises without any evidence. This is a negation of the market economy principle that the US side has always advertised, and also exposes the hypocrisy of the so-called fair competition. We once again urge the United States to stop generalizing the concept of national security, stop unreasonable suppression of specific Chinese enterprises, and provide a fair, just and non discriminatory environment for normal cooperation between countries.
